The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) continue work on their new $980 million West Hall expansion. Las Vegas is a premier destination for conventions, trade show, and corporate events, and the LVCVA hope this new expansion will help with the growing need for additional convention space.

The West Hall construction will give an additional 1.4 million square feet of convention space to the already 3.2 million square feet at the convention center. Additionally, the West Hall expansion will include a new outdoor plaza and a grand atrium.

Concrete Pour Commences

Constructing a facility of this magnitude is no easy feat. A current milestone of pouring more than 600,000 square feet of concrete flooring can attest to that. It is estimated that it will take construction workers about four and half months to complete this pouring process.

This is a major step in the overall completion of this project, which is currently about seventy seven percent completed. You can see part of the concrete pouring process in the time lapsed video shown above.

An Impressive Concrete Pour By The Numbers

To grasp the sheer grandiose nature of this process, here are just some of the numbers:

  • 10: thickness in inches of the reinforced concrete slab
  • 136:  number of days needed to complete the pour
  • 333: number of volleyball courts the West Hall expansion could fit
  • 1,800:  number of round trips by fully loaded concrete trucks
  • 328,000: square feet of column-free space
  • 1.4 million: amount of new square feet of space
  • 2.1 million: labor hours logged since 2018
  • 75 million: pounds of concrete needed for the West Hall floor

When the project is completed, the 328,000 square feet of column-free space will make West Hall the largest column-free space in North America. It will definitely make Las Vegas the destination for trade shows and conventions.

The new exhibit floor will also feature plumbing, electrical, and data infrastructure, so exhibitors can connect without the use of on the ground wiring.

West hall will definitely be a room of both grand splendor, and one that features state of the art design and technology.

The expansion is slated for completion in December 2020.
